Initial Visits

The initial visit can range from 1 to 1.5 hours long. During this visit, medical history details are reviewed and analyzed. Any available blood work is reviewed and analyzed. Also, necessary non-invasive physical exams are completed. A customized treatment plan is the end result of your first visit.

If you don’t have labwork (general blood work/specialized testing), or don’t have access to it, Dr. Alami may send you for necessary blood work or request a release of records from your family physician.

When, and for how long, to follow up will be discussed at the end of the visit, as it depends on the case. Some people may need to follow up sooner than others.

Follow ups

Follow up durations are dependent on case by case basis. General follow up durations range from 30 minutes to 45 minutes. During your follow up, updates on your health concerns are reviewed, and your response to the treatment plan is also reviewed. If blood work was ordered, it will be thoroughly explained and taken into consideration in any treatment plan modifications.

If everything is progressing well, we may add to the treatment plan so to improve treatment outcome. Otherwise, the treatment plan is modified to help improve tolerability, compliance, and efficacy.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture visits are 45 minutes long. Dr. Alami will walk you through your first acupuncture visit step by step in order to make the experience more comfortable. Follow up acupuncture sessions will generally begin with a tongue and pulse assessment, after which the acupuncture treatment will begin. Once all needles are in place, there is a short review of health concerns, after which you begin a relaxing deep breathing meditation to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system.

Clinical Nutrition

Food as Medicine

“Every time you eat or drink, you are either feeding disease or fighting it.”
~Heather Morgan

Nutritional counselling is the cornerstone of Naturopathic Medicine. In order to achieve solid and long-term results, one has to first establish a strong foundation for good health. What we feed our bodies on a day-to-day basis has an unmistakable impact on our wellbeing. Nutritional deficiencies or food sensitivities can manifest as physical symptoms. Naturopathic Doctors are trained experts at recognizing and addressing these dietary issues.

Botanical Medicine

An Ancient Science

Natural botanicals provide excellent therapeutic treatment and tend to have far less side-effects than pharmaceuticals. They often help support many systems at once where many pharmaceuticals primary focus on one system. Herbs are a powerful medicine and there are many interactions with common medications, which is why it is best not to take any herbal preparations without the guidance of a naturopathic doctor who is familiar with all of the potential drug-herb interactions.

Laboratory Testing

What are your optimal numbers?

Laboratory work can be an important piece of the puzzle when searching for the root cause of your health issues. I work with various laboratories, including ICL, Dynacare, Lifelabs, and Doctors Data to provide my patients access to these professional lab tests. Laboratory tests include, but are not limited to, IgG Food Sensitivity testing, Comprehensive Stool Analysis, SIBO Breath tests, as well as common blood work for the numerous body systems. I also always take my patient’s clinical picture into consideration when analyzing blood work. In some instances, just because the numbers are within the range, it doesn’t mean it’s their normal.

Acupuncture

Balance Your Chi

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient medicine being over 3000 years old. Compared to Western medicine, TCM views ailments and the body from a different perspective. Although it may be used synergistically alongside Western medicine to help improve its outcome, TCM is based on the concept of ‘qi’ (pronounced “Chi”) or ‘vital energy’ circulating in meridians throughout the body. Any blockage in these pathways disrupts the flow of qi leading to imbalance and undesirable psychological or physical symptoms. By using acupuncture, herbs, and a lifestyle changes, we can correct those imbalances and restore optimal health.

Acupuncture has been recognized by The World Health Organization (WHO) for over 100 different conditions including pain, women’s health complaints, infertility, internal disorders, mental & emotional conditions, anxiety, depression and stress.

Physical Medicine

Healing Touch

Naturopathic doctors are trained in a variety of physical medicine techniques, which may be used during patient visits, and recommended as part of a home health care routine. Treatments may include soft tissue or visceral manipulation including therapeutic massage, therapeutic range of motion or exercise therapy, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulation of muscles, bone or spine, or the use of physiotherapeutic machines (ie. ultrasound, electro-acupuncture).

With my Kinesiology background, I am well equipped to recommend superior customized exercise routines and physical treatment plans according to my patient’s needs.

Health Psychology and Lifestyle Counselling

Mind-Body Balance

Naturopathic Doctors understand the link between the mind and the body. Through lifestyle counselling, they help you recognize and understand how current life habits may be negatively impacting your health.
This modality addresses your health holistically by taking the physical, mental, and spiritual health into account.

NDs are well equipped in empowering patients to make the changes they need. This is done by addressing stress, promoting relaxation and mindfulness and bringing awareness to the mind-body aspect of health.

Intravenous (IV) Therapy

Bypass gut absorption

IV Therapy is a safe and effective way to bypass gastrointestinal absorption in the cases of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), for example, poor nutrient intake due to IBS, or the need to achieve therapeutic doses of certain vitamins.

Homeopathic Medicine

Natural Healing

Homeopathic Medicine is a holistic modality that requires a remedy selection based on the patients symptomatic picture, their personality traits and even their character picture. It is a form of energetic medicine that works by stimulating the body’s innate ability to heal itself and resolve any disharmonies that may be blocking it from achieving optimal health. As a registered Naturopath with a Homeopathic Diploma background, I have the necessary tools to understand and connect with my patients on a deeper level, allowing me to provide outstanding Homeopathic and Naturopathic services.
